Konnichiwa Japan Exhibition (2016)

Medium: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe After Effects

Objective: Together with my team member in the Communications field, we worked to create a fictitious travel campaign. Our program called ''Konnichiwa Japan" is a 3 week study abroad trip for high school students. I was responsible for creating the design aspect of this project. I first began by designing the logo, which uses the symbol of the red shrine gate, representative of Japan. Our trip would have the students explore the culture through seeing historical landmarks and becoming immersed in the lifestyle. I designed a mascot to brand our company and make it more memorable for those who see it. I made postcards to inform those who may be interested about more details of our program. The info graphics talk about the most popular shrine and temples found in Japan and the various practices that take place there. One big part of this campaign was the mascot I designed for it. My teammate and I chose a fox as our character, because foxes are often associated with guarding the Japanese shrines. Statues of foxes can be found outside the gates. I designed t-shirts, key chains and a poster all featuring our mascot as well. I also created the layout for a program guide. This printed booklet describes all the aspects of our travel campaign and an outline of what activities the students would participate in. A website mockup was also made to be used as a resource for teachers, parents, and students. This allows them to learn more about the trips and would be a place they can apply. Our main selling point, the mobile app, would let students to navigate on their own, and would allow them to create and customize their own travel itinerary. It included a  messaging function to keep in touch with their parents, friends, and group leaders while on the trip. To bring the entire project together we both assembled a 3D shrine made of foam core and spray painted red. We had fun interactive activities like ''omamori'' or fortunes for our potential students to get an idea of some practices that take place and allow them to try it out.
